ShelterBox has responded to the devastation left by the cyclone that slammed into Myanmar, killing at least 22,000 and destroying up to 95 percent of the homes in its path. 224 boxes left from Dubai over the weekend, 220 boxes left from Melbourne, Australia and a further 200 boxes with two tents each were packed May 6 at the ShelterBox HQ in Helston, Cornwall. A team of four SRT members are making arrangements to assist with the difficult distribution of vital aid. Keep an eye on the www.shelterbox.org website for updates in the Latest News section.

Drunk busters. Several Deerfield Rotary Club members got to see first hand the results of the club’s efforts to help combat teen drunk driving Monday. Club member Vicki Case, from the Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods Chamber, Ron Levitski, a West Deerfield Township Trustee, and Club President Barbara Struthers watched driver training students try out the “drunk buster” googles while riding a golf cart around traffic cones. Deerfield Rotary donated the googles and the golf cart, in coordination with the DBR chamber and West Deerfield Township. The students ran over nearly all of the traffic cones, leaving an impression not only on the cones, but the students, as to why you don’t want to drink and drive.

Driving instructor John Sullivan will be at a future Rotary meeting to let us know what the students said after the class.

Every Rotarian, Every Year: Have you made your contribution to The Rotary Foundation for the year ending June 30th?  Remember, the club matches your contribution up to $250 each year.
